ALJUN Melecio leads the five players who will make up the UAAP juniors basketball Season 78 Mythical Five team that will be announced on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Melecio, the high-scoring guard of De La Salle-Zobel, topped the statistical points and will be formally awarded with the MVP trophy before Game Two of the finals between the Junior Archers and the unbeaten National University Bullpups.

Joining Melecio on the elite list are Justine Baltazar and John Lloyd Clemente of the Bullpups and brothers Javi and Juan Gomez de Liano of the University of the Philippines Integrated School.

Statistics collated by the league’s official provider Imperium Technology is the lone basis for the individual awards.

Melecio topped the MVP race with a 78.9286 total statistical points (SPs) clip after averaging 22.7 points and 2.3 steals, both league bests.

The 6-foot-7 Baltazar had 76.5714 total SPs while averaged 16.4 points and a league-best 13.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in NU’s sweep of the elimination round along with Clemente, who was the league’s third leading scorer at 16.4 per contest. He finished third in the MVP race with 66.6429 SPs.

Javi and Juan Gomez de Liano, meanwhile, were the fourth and fifth placers in the statistical race with 58.6923 and 58.3846 total statistical points for UPIS.
