Expect a La Salle team that runs, guns, and plays defense under coach Aldin Ayo

COACH Aldin Ayo did not mince words about what La Salle needs do to become title contenders again.

Play defense like Letran.

“I hope na ma-implement namin ’yung sistema namin dito. Kung ma-adopt nila ’yung sistema namin, very unpredictable ’yung team na ‘to with the firepower that they have and if they can play defense like we did sa Letran,” Ayo said.

Ayo acknowledged La Salle has a talented squad, but stressed that reaching its full potential will depend on the Green Archers’ acceptance of his system.

Under Ayo, Letran used pressure defense and a run-and-gun offense that offset their height disadvantage and earned the Knights the NCAA Season 91 crown, winning over powerhouse San Beda.

Implementing his system shouldn’t be too tough, based on the first few practice sessions.

Ayo said he liked the reception from the team in their first few practices and he felt the Green Archers — who missed the semifinals for the first time in three years —were eager to be in practice even though next season is still almost a year away.

“Very cooperative naman ’yung mga bata. Siguro coming from a dismal season, expect na very eager sila makabawi. Very promising naman ‘yung lineup,” said Ayo.

“The whole team was waiting for me already and ‘yung mga bata, inaanticipate nila kung ano ‘yung gagawin namin,” said Ayo, who comes in to La Salle replacing Juno Sauler.
