Afril Bernardino flirts with quadruple-double as NU Lady Bulldogs score 36-point rout of FEU Lady Tams

NATIONAL University made quick work of Far Eastern University, 78-42, on Saturday to put the defending two-time champions on the brink of an outright championship berth in the UAAP Season 79 women's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Reigning MVP Afril Bernardino flirted with a rare quadruple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and nine steals, while Gemma Miranda had 21 points, nine boards and five assists as the Lady Bulldogs scored their 13th straight win.

NU, which is also on a 45-game winning streak dating to 2014, looks to secure an outright spot in the best-of-three finals when it takes on also-ran University of the Philippines on Nov. 15.

La Salle, behind Khate Castillo's 18 points, overcame University of the East, 70-64, to take solo second place with a 9-3 card.

The Lady Archers will shoot for the twice-to-beat semifinals incentive against the Lady Maroons on Saturday.

Camille Claro added 17 points, six rebounds and five assists while Joahanna Arciga had 14 points and eight boards for De La Salle.

The Lady Warriors fell in third spot with their fourth loss in 12 contests, putting their twice-to-beat aspirations in doubt.

Love Sto. Domingo paced UE with 18 points and 14 rebounds while Eunique Chan tossed in 14 markers and nine boards.

The Lady Tamaraws bowed out of contention with their ninth defeat in 12 matches.
