UNIVERSITY of the East is looking to beef up its team by recruiting Diliman College cager Adama “Alex” Diakhite of Senegal.

Newly-appointed UE assistant coach Paul Artadi posted on his Instagram a photo of him with Diakhite and head coach Joe Silva at the school’s gym.

“Bright future #UEWARRIORS,” wrote Artadi on his Instagram account.

Silva, however, made it clear Diakhite has not committed to join the Red Warriors although he admitted the team is very interested.

Silva also said UE management is already speaking to Diliman College about recruiting Diakhite.

“He just went to practice but management is talking to Diliman’s management about the possibility of Diakhite transferring this school year,” said Silva.

The 6-foot-7 Diakhite as a versatile big man who also has a decent midrange game, doing well with the Blue Dragons in the UCBL and other leagues.

If acquired by UE, Diakhite will have to spend one year in residency before he can play for the Red Warriors in Season 82.

The Red Warriors have not fielded a foreign player since Charles Mammie and Moustapha Arafat in the UAAP in 2014.

Coach Derrick Pumaren had wanted to recruit a foreign player during his time in charge of the Warriors as UE was the only team to play without an import in the UAAP the past few seasons.
