UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas beat Far Eastern University, 86-72, on Sunday to advance to the next phase of the UAAP Season 80 women's basketball step-ladder semifinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Sai Larosa scored all of her 10 points in the payoff period as Tigresses bucked a poor 7-of-16 shooting from the stripe to prevail.
"We had a lot of free throws missed that we had to work on. Good thing our defense held in the final five minutes," said UST coach Haydee Ong.
Anjel Anies led the Tigresses with 24 points, Jem Angeles added 14 points and five rebounds, Kikay Gandalla added 11 and Lon Rivera scored 10 points.
UST will take on twice-to-beat University of the East on Wednesday.
"One game at a time. Lahat ng games knockout. We are hoping for the best," said Ong.
National University is in the Finals for the fourth straight season after completing another 14-game elimination round sweep. The Lady Bulldogs are undefeated in 62 contests since 2014.
