COMING off its worst start to a UAAP season in 19 years, La Salle needed a wake up call in its title reclamation campaign.
They did - and Angel Canino and Shevana Laput answered the call.
The Lady Spikers took out their frustrations on the University of the Philippines for a four-set decision, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-17 in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena

La Salle captain Canino posted 24 points, five digs, and four receptions, as her fellow green-and-white junior Laput also took charge with 21 markers and five digs.
Fueling the Lady Spikers' redemption win was the seething five-set loss dealt to them by University of Santo Tomas - their fourth defeat in a row over the last two years at the hands of the Golden Tigresses.
"Tough loss talaga yung nangyari against UST. Kinapitan namin nang sobra-sobra at nilaban namin, pero kulang pa rin kaya kailangan namin magdobleng kayod din sa training at kailangan din namin magkaroon pa more ng connections sa bawat isa," Canino said.
"After naman ng pagkatalo na yun, lahat naman nag-adjust agad, naka-move on agad, and lahat naman, ginawa na lang ding hugot para maging better next time."
Both teams now share 2-2 records midway through the opening round of prelims play.
Almost but not quite
Winning two games early on this season is rare yet promising for the Fighting Maroons.
Veteran mainstays Irah Jaboneta and Joan Monares paced the defeat, with the former firing a 15-point, 11-reception double-double and the latter close to a triple-double with 11 points, nine digs, and eight receptions.
For State U shot-caller Benson Bocboc, it was a matter of being disorganized during the breaks of the game that cost them an upset win.
"Kami naman, we fell short dun sa pina-practice namin. Sometimes, may mga situation na kami yung na-disorganize. Medyo kinapos kami on certain (crucial) situations," he said.
