THE NCAA will be donating proceeds from the match between San Beda and Letran on Tuesday to Samboy Lim, who is still recovering from a stroke suffered in November that left the basketball great bedridden.

Fr. Vic Calvo, Letran’s representative to the NCAA Management Committee, confirmed the league’s move to donate ticket sales from the playdate to help ease Lim's mounting medical bill as part of the league’s corporate social responsibility.

Incidentally, Lim played for the Knights in college, winning championships under talent-laden teams coached by Larry Albano long before he became known as ‘The Skywalker’ in the PBA.

Unknown to many though, he is also a San Beda alumnus, having studied in the Mendiola school during his younger days.

“It’s part of the corporate social responsibility of the NCAA,” said Calvo. “One of the icons of the NCAA si Samboy Lim. Kailangan niya ng tulong natin ngayon.”

Fans are expected to troop to The Arena in San Juan for the San Beda-Letran match, an all-important game with the winner clinching a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.

Calvo said the NCAA hopes to match if not surpass the gate receipts from the ‘Frantic Friday’ game day where all six teams vying for Final Four spots competed more than a week ago.

Sources said the league netted about P200,000 during that day, the highest this season.

The NCAA will also be accepting donations for Lim on Tuesday.

“It’s time to give back to those people who made the NCAA. It’s also a Christian obligation. Malaking tulong daw sa kanya kasi bedridden pa rin siya,” said Calvo.

The San Beda-Letran match will be played at 4 p.m. following two more games between Mapua and College of Saint Benilde at 12 noon, and Arellano and Emilio Aguinaldo College at 2 p.m.
