TEYTEY Teodoro is heeding coach Vergel Meneses’ call to play better defense but it will be for Jose Rizal University’s title bid, insisiting he is not yet thinking of a career in professional basketball.

Meneses praised Teodoro for his solid offense, saying the JRU guard can become a good PBA player if he can work on his defense.

Delighted with the Heavy Bomber’s performance in an overtime victory over Letran that stretched their win streak to three, Meneses said the sky is the limit for Teodoro as far as his basketball career is concerned.

Teodoro is careful not to think so far ahead, determined to help boost JRU’s bid for the elusive crown.

“Focus muna ako sa JRU. Gusto ko pumasok sa championship,” said the 22-year-old Teodoro.

The Heavy Bombers currently have the longest title drought in the top collegiate leagues, having last won the NCAA title in 1972 with a team led by Philip Cezar.

“Ang tagal na namin hindi nakakapasok. ’Yun talaga ’yung pangarap ng team. Every game, one game at a time,” said Teodoro.

After a so-so first round, the Heavy Bombers have finally picked up their game, winning three straight to gain solo fifth place in the team standings.

Teodoro has averaged 19.7 points against top teams San Beda and Mapua.

“Alam naman natin ’yung kakayanan nung Teodoro kapag ginusto niya. At any given time, kung gusto niyang mag-take charge, he will take charge,” said Meneses.
