TEY Teodoro matched his career high with 32 points as Jose Rizal University pulled off a 64-55 win over Lyceum on Tuesday to boost its playoff hopes in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan.
Teodoro’s standout performance enabled the Heavy Bombers to win a fifth straight game and tie University of Perpetual Help for third place on 11-6 records in a tight Final Four race.
Teodoro shot 10-of-22 from the field including six three-pointers to spearhead the wire-to-wire win. He made 12 points in the third quarter when the Heavy Bombers put the game away.
After starting the season with a lackluster 6-6 record, the Heavy Bombers are right on track for a Final Four berth, overtaking idle Mapua and Arellano (both 10-60 in the team standings.
“Nasa kamay na namin ngayon (ang aming kapalaran). Hindi 'yung mag-iisip ka na matalo si ganito, matalo si ganyan,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses.
Abdoul Poutouchi also played a key role in the JRU victory, scoring seven points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
Victor Nguidjol had 13 points for the Pirates, who now have a 4-13 slate going to their final match against College of Saint Benilde on Thursday.
