SOUTHWESTERN University survived a late-game scare from Lyceum, 60-53, in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.
Melvin Holper finished with 12 points while Boko Mupungo and John Auditor added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, as the Cebu-based Cobras bagged their second win in seven matches in the preseason tournament.
Leading 32-24 at the half, the Cobras stepped on the gas in the third quarter to widen the gap, 49-31. The Pirates answered with their own 22-11 run in the final quarter, but SWU’s lead was just too big to overcome.
Jean Nguidjol scored 11 to pace Lyceum, which fell to 1-7 (win-loss). Joseph Gabayni and Wilson Baltazar chipped in 10 markers apiece for the Pirates.
