SAN Sebastian suffered a huge blow in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament as point guard Jamil Ortuoste faces a two-week layoff after spraining his left ankle in practice.
The 21-year-old rookie playmaker confirmed the news to Spin.ph on Monday when he showed up in crutches for the Golden Stags’ game against defending champion San Beda at The Arena in San Juan.
Ortuoste has been a revelation for the Stags in their first season without the 'Pinatubo Trio,' averaging team-highs of 16.4 points and 3.9 assists, along with 4.9 rebounds in 27.9 minutes in seven games for the Stags, who, before their match against the Lions, had been sporting a 4-3 win-loss card.
Ortuoste said he sustained the injury after he stepped on the foot of teammate CJ Perez in one sequence in practice.
