SAN Sebastian is considering appealing the ejection of Leo de Vera in the Stags’ 72-63 victory over Mapua on Saturday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
De Vera, a vital cog in the Stags’ roster and one of the league’s top perimeter defenders, was thrown out for hitting Joseph Eriobu with an elbow with only a minute gone by in the fourth quarter.
The 24-year-old one-and-done rookie finished with eight points, six steals, two rebounds, and one assist in 22 minutes of play for the Stags, who improved to a 7-5 win-loss card and cemented their place in fourth spot.
“We will try to check on the rules because it wasn’t really an intentional elbow," Stags coach Topex Robinson said. "It just so happened that he was in the space. I guess it’s up to the commissioner kung paano.”
An ejection merits an automatic suspension, with the duration recommended by commissioner Joe Lipa.
Mapua’s Mark Braña was also ejected in the same sequence in question after he incurred a second technical foul for second motion on De Vera.
