MAPUA started its "early buildup" for next season on a bright note.
Already out of the Final Four picture, the Cardinals trounced the Lyceum Pirates, 76-58, on Monday in their penultimate game in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball competition at The Arena in San Juan.
After falling short of their semifinal objective, the Cardinals still found something to cheer about as they already matched their win total last season with still one game remaining.
“This is already our preparation for next year,” said Cardinals coach Chito Victolero, whose team won for the seventh time in 17 outings. “Sinabi ko rin sa kanila na dapat maganda exit namin this season.”
Mike Parala, who along with Jonathan Banal and Jumel Chien are in their last year with the Cardinals, sustained his consistent season by registering 17 points and 10 rebounds, including two blocks, while Kenneth Ighalo also produced a double-double of 12 points, 11 boards, with three assists.
The Cardinals never looked back following a closely fought first quarter as they dealt the hapless Pirates their 15th loss against three wins.
