SISI Rondina has long etched her name in the University of Sto. Tomas lore as one of the greatest volleyball stars to take flight for the España side.
As the current crop of Tigresses continues to impress upon matching the school’s best-ever six-game start to the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, Rondina believes it’s time for the young España side to soar higher and roar louder.

The five-time UAAP MVP, beach and indoor volleyball combined, is in awe of how the undersized Tigresses have scaled new heights this early into Season 86 atop the league table.
But more importantly, Rondina hopes that the form and success embedded in UST’s 6-0 start won’t be short-lived and will instead be a launchpad to the ultimate prize.
“I’m very proud of them kasi hindi lang talaga pisikal ‘yung pinapakita nila, na hindi pisikalan ‘yung volleyball talaga kundi ‘yung puso at ‘yung passion sa isa’t isa and kung paano din nila nilalaban ‘yung UST community.
“Sana magtuloy-tuloy hanggang matapos kasi ang layo ng mararating nila ‘pag ganun ‘yung ipe-perform talaga nila,” said Rondina.
'Para sa USTe!'
Five years ago, the Rondina-led Season 81 side fell one game short of bringing the crown back to España in what would’ve been the Tigresses’ first UAAP title in nine years.
With another prospective title chase brewing in Season 86, the reigning Premier Volleyball League (PVL) MVP has one key advice in the Tigresses’ bid to deliver championship number 17 — show everyone what UST is and has always been made of.
“Maging composed lang sila and kailangan lang nila isipin kung ano ‘yung goal ng team and ‘wag lumimot sa mga taong tumulong (sa kanila),“ Rondina said.
“Ipakita nila kung ano ‘yung meron sa UST.”
