SAN Beda put away Perpetual late and ran away with an 84-75 win in the 92nd NCAA basketball tournament at the Foiloil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.
More importantly, the Red Lions grabbed the other twice-to-beat edge with a 13-4 record. Arellano earned the first incentive with a 95-82 victory over Mapua earlier.
AC Soberano spearheaded San Beda's balanced attack with 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point area. Davon Potts and JVee Mocon had 15 and 14, respectively, for the Red Lions, who broke away in the homestretch.
The surge began with Soberano's back-to-back triples that gave the team a 68-65 lead.
Potts and Robert Bolick followed suit and scored crucial baskets before Jomari Presbitero unleashed the booming triple for an 82-72 cushion with 29.5 to go.
"That's the goal for every team (get the twice-to-beat edge). Nothing's gonna be easy, it's gonna be harder so we have to prepare," said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
Bright Akhuetie scattered 29 markers with 18 rebounds for the Altas, who dropped to 11-6.
