SAN Beda put away Perpetual late and ran away with an 84-75 win in the 92nd NCAA basketball tournament at the Foiloil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.
More importantly, the Red Lions grabbed the other twice-to-beat edge with a 13-4 record. Arellano earned the first incentive with a 95-82 victory over Mapua earlier.
AC Soberano spearheaded San Beda's balanced attack with 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point area. Davon Potts and JVee Mocon had 15 and 14, respectively, for the Red Lions, who broke away in the homestretch.
The surge began with Soberano's back-to-back triples that gave the team a 68-65 lead.
Potts and Robert Bolick followed suit and scored crucial baskets before Jomari Presbitero unleashed the booming triple for an 82-72 cushion with 29.5 to go.
"That's the goal for every team (get the twice-to-beat edge). Nothing's gonna be easy, it's gonna be harder so we have to prepare," said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
