JAVEE Mocon is looking to help San Beda wrap up the elimination round of the NCAA Season 92 basketball tournament atop the standings.
But it won't be an easy task for the Red Lions (13-4) as they are set to square off with in-form Arellano University (14-3) in their final assignment at 4 p.m. on Friday.
San Beda's fate hinges on the outcome of the match that will also serve as an acid test for the Mendiola-based cagers, who are already assured of a twice-to-beat advantage.
"Mas confident kami ngayon coming to the semifinals, mas maganda ang nilalaro namin. And we're just happy that we grabbed the twice-to-beat. This Friday, we want to grab the No. 1 spot," said Mocon in the aftermath of their 84-75 conquest of Perpetual last Tuesday.
"Parang tradition na sa San Beda (yung makuha yung No. 1 seed after the elims). But we're facing Arellano, so it's a big test for us," he added.
Mocon is expected to take a major role anew against the Chiefs, who are bannered by high-octane guards Jio Jalalon and Kent Salado.
To beat Arellano, he said the Red Lions have to play with boundless energy from start to finish.
"We just have to start strong like we did [Tuesday] and throughout the game, consistent kami, and we have to play selfless," he said.
