SAN Beda overhauled a 22-point deficit with a mighty second half assault to beat Arellano, 101-86, on Friday and stay unbeaten in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Davon Potts and Donald Tankoua keyed in a big San Beda turnaround to lift the Red Lions to their sixth win in as many outings.
Potts scored a career-high 31 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, for San Beda that clawed back from a 36-14 deficit in the first quarter.
Tankoua also had a big game for the Red Lions, finishing with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
The Red Lions outscored the Chiefs, 64-39, in the second half with Potts and Tankoua doing most of the damage for San Beda.
“Every time you are down, you have to dig deep,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
Despite the 22-point deficit, San Beda slowly but surely cut the deficit down to 10 at the half, 47-37, before tying the match at 72 at the end of the third period.
The Red Lions got a break when Lervin Flores was slapped with a technical foul on a rebound play to begin a 10-0 spurt that put them ahead, 83-75. Potts and Tankoua scored San Beda’s next 12 points after that to retain its lead until the final buzzer.
The loss spoiled Jiovani Jalalon’s spectacular outing, scoring 25 in the game after being limited to eight against Mapua earlier this week. He hit the triple that put a 22-point Arellano cushion before the Chiefs eventually ran out of steam.
The Chiefs slipped to 3-2 in the deflating defeat.
