NIGERIAN import Allwell Oraeme posted a huge double-double despite feeling ill, powering Mapua past St. Benilde, 78-68, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena.
The reigning MVP had team-highs of 17 points and 21 as the Cardinals scored their second win in as many games, joining the San Beda Red Lions atop the heap.
“I told him na lang, get the rebound, play defense, and don’t mind about scoring,” said Mapua coach Atoy Co.
Fortunately for the Cardinals, they will have enough time to rest their prized big man.
“I’m happy na after today, July na yung next game namin. We have enough time to rest him.”
CJ Isit and Andrew Estrella also stepped up for Mapua, scoring 15 and 12, respectively.
Mapua took a 54-38 lead on Estrella’s layup off a beautiful spin move.
“Happy we’re 2-0, but I’m not yet happy with the way they’re playing,” said Co.
