JOSE Rizal University won its second straight game when the Heavy Bombers defeated Mapua, 65-60, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Teytey Teodoro scored 22 points for the Heavy Bombers, who upped their win-loss record to 5-5 and claimed their first winning streak of the season.
The Cardinals fell to 6-4 following the defeat.
“It’s a roller coaster for us this season. It’s about time. It’s second round na, hindi na kami puwedeng matalo, one game at a time na,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses, whose squad was coming off a morale-boosting win over San Beda last week.
“No doubt, malaking tulong ‘yun kesa galing from a loss. For sure, ‘yung morale ng team mababa. Iba ‘yung galing sa panalo, tapos ‘yung tinalo mo pa (San Beda),” he added.
The Heavy Bombers were trailing entering the fourth, 45-49, before Teodoro took charge. Teodoro hit a crucial triple for a 63-58 lead before converting a lay-up for a seven-point cushion with just 1:19 left in the game.
Allwell Oraeme had 15 points and 19 rebounds for the Cardinals, who began their second round with a loss. Darrel Menina also had 11 points for Mapua.
