JOSE Rizal University went full throttle in the third quarter en route to a 71-63 victory over Benilde in the NCAA Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Friday.

Abdoulad Poutouochi and Paolo Pontejos finished with 14 points apiece for JRU, which bolstered its final four hopes with an 8-6 win-loss record.

But it was Teytey Teodoro who spearheaded the team's attack in the penultimate quarter, dropping nine of his 11 points in the third canto.

In the first five minutes of action off the break, the Heavy Bombers turned a 38-33 halftime lead into a comfortable 54-36 cushion on a furious 16-3 rally.

The embattled Blazers, who remained listless in 14 outings, sliced the lead to eight in the fourth period but couldn’t come closer as the Heavy Bombers held on to the win.

"The desire to win is there. They want to prove something," said JRU coach Vergel Meneses.
