EMILIO Aguinaldo College pulled away late to hammer out a 73-66 win over Lyceum in the NCAA Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre on Friday.
Hamadou Laminou scattered 20 points, while Sidney Onwubere had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Generals, who tied the Pirates at seventh spot with identical 5-9 win-loss records.
But it was Francis Munsayac who shone the brightest for the Generals in the homestretch, scoring eight points in the team's 10-2 run to build a 72-62 lead with 1:16 to go.
Munsayac finished with 15 markers.
"Andun na yung composure namin, matatag na kami. It's a good sign for our character," said EAC coach Ariel Sison, after his team won its first back-to-back games this season.
"Yun ang pinagpe-pray namin (makakuha ng two consecutive wins) and it happened today," he added.
The Pirates, who clawed back from a 16-point hole but sputtered in the end, were paced by Adrian Alban's 18 points.
Mike Nzeusseu and Edcor Maata added 16 and 9, respectively, for the slumping Lyceum, which absorbed its fourth straight loss.
