ARELLANO dominated College of Saint Benilde, 70-59, on Friday to to keep pace with the league leaders in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Jiovani Jalalon led the way for the Chiefs with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals, while Zach Nicholls and Kent Salado had 14 and 11 points, respectively. Julius Cadavis added eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Chiefs started the game with a 13-0 lead in the wire-to-wire victory to up their mark to 5-2.
Arellano joined a four-way tie at second place with Mapua, Letran, and Perpetual Help. But coach Jerry Codinera would rather have his wards focus on each game they face than be distracted with their place in the packed upper half of the standings.
“It’s more of sa amin, mas worried kami sa mga makakalaban namin. We will have tough games,” said Codinera as they prepare to face Jose Rizal University and Lyceum before the end of the first round.
Christian Fajarito scored a game-high 20 points while also grabbing 12 points but it was not enough for the Blazers, who stretched their losing streak to eight games.
