ARELLANO stretched its winning streak to six games with a 78-69 win over College of Saint Benilde to claim solo second in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Chiefs climbed to solo second with a 9-2 card following the loss of Perpetual Help (8-3) earlier in the day.

The Blazers continued to struggle to come up with a victory, going 0-11 to match their start in 2004.

On the other hand, Arellano built its longest winning streak since entering the NCAA in 2009.

“Record ‘to sa AU basketball,” said Arellano coach Jerry Codinera. “Malaking bagay ‘yun kasi marami kaming na-achieve na this season. That will hopefully fuel our energy in the coming weeks.”

Jiovani Jalalon finished with 17 points, while Dioncee Holts added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Chiefs.

After the Altas lost to lowly San Sebastian in the first game, the Chiefs didn’t play with complacency against the Blazers. Arellano never trailed in the match and led by as many as 22 points in the match although CSB had a late run in the end.

“’Yung mga teams talaga, ready rin. Nahirapan din kami sa Benilde dahil lumaban sila until the end,” said Codinera.
Carlo Young had 24 points for the Blazers.

    The scores:
    Arellano 78—Jalalon 17, Holts 12, Salado 11, Gumaru 7, Nicholls 7, Meca 6, Enriquez 5, Flores 4, Cadavis 4, Aguilar 3, Canete 2, Villoria 0, Rivera 0, Zamora 0.
