SCOTTIE Thompson was straight to the point. Asked which team he prefers to play when he sets his sights of playing in the PBA, the Perpetual Help Star was quick to mention the Star Hotshots.
“Siyempre kung gugustuhin, Purefoods,” said Thompson in a brief chat with Spin.ph.
The national team player confirmed he is set to apply in the coming PBA Rookie Draft as he’s currently playing his final season with the Altas in the NCAA.
Unlike in the UAAP, NCAA rules allow players to apply for the draft in the middle of its season.
Incidentally, Spin.ph has been receiving comments from its social media accounts that Thompson could be a perfect fit for the Hotshots, with a few readers even saying that his play is similar to that of PJ Simon.
Thompson, however, made it clear he would want to play for any team as long as he gets selected in the PBA.
"Gusto ko lang ma-draft ako,” said Thompson. “Hindi naman natin malalaman.”
The combo guard has been making a good impression as of late, having been included in the Philippine men’s basketball team to the 2015 Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship and the 28th Southeast Asian Games.
In the NCAA, the reigning Most Valuable Player has been posting triple-doubles consistently including a 21-point, 15-rebound, 14-assist outing against San Sebastian Friday in a performance which earned him the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week.
Thompson believes this year is the perfect time to enter the draft.
“Sakto din naman na last year ko na. Susubukan ko na lang, baka palarin,” he said.
This early, the Gilas cadet member is already being anticipated as a possible first-rounder in the August 23 Rooki Draft, although Thompson isn’t thinking about that.
“Hindi ko muna iniisip ‘yun. Kung sabi, first round ako, thank you na lang kay God. Basta gusto ko lang ma-draft,” said Thompson.
