UNSELFISH basketball has been San Beda's formula for success as the Red Lions emerged as the only unbeaten team left so far in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball wars.
The Red Lions posted their fifth straight win to start the new season with an 88-70 demolition of Perpetual Help on Tuesday.
San Beda center Donald Tankoua credited their success to the Red Lions playing effective team basketball, with different players excelling every game.
“We are playing as a family. As you can see, we are not selfish. That is why every game, we have different best player,” said Tankoua, who has been on a tear as of late for the Red Lions and is averaging 12.8 points and 12.2 rebounds in five outings.
AC Soberano attested to the improved chemistry and execution of San Beda, pointing out that even with his shooting struggles, his teammates continued to put their faith in him. And it finally paid off on Tuesday as he hit 5-of-8 triples and ended up with 15 points against Perpetual.
“Medyo off ako lately pero hindi talaga nawawala ‘yung tiwala nila sa akin,” said Soberano.
The Red Lions, however, will be challenged to keep their perfect start come Friday when they face Jio Jalalon-led Arellano. And Soberano said it will again have to take a concerted effort on their part to contain the Chiefs.
“Challenge sa amin ‘yun. Last time natalo kami sa Arellano (sa Filoil). Pagbubutihin pa namin ‘yung defense especially sa akin, ‘yun talaga ang kailangan kong i-focus,” said Soberano.
