SAN Beda outgunned Mapua, 80-63, on Monday to jumpstart its bid for a seventh straight title in the NCAA high school basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Germy Mahinay and Joshua Tagala led San Beda with 13 points apiece, Samuel Abuhijle added 11 and John Lagumen had 10 points for the Red Cubs, who are now without 10 players from last year’s roster.
"We lost two-thirds of our players from last season so we're back from scratch," said San Beda coach JB Sison. "This is a good start for us but we expect it to be tougher each game."
"It's a step by step process and this just the first game so there's really nothing to celebrate about," added Sison.
Mapua’s Rommel Junsay led all scorers with 19 points, while Jasper Selanga and Michael Enriquez had 16 apiece for the Robins.
