TWO double-doubles earned San Beda’s Javee Mocon the nod from scribes, getting the NCAA Player of the Week citation.
The Lions beat contenders Perpetual and Arellano, with Mocon registering 14 points and 13 rebounds against the Altas and coming up with 19 and 15 against the Chiefs.
The wins gave the Lions a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals, and Mocon was chosen by scribes covering the NCAA as top player for the period of September 17 to 23
"I just don't want to lose this game. I just played my heart out. I did everything I can to contribute to our win," said Mocon after the win over the Chiefs.
"It’s Arellano and they’re the barometer," said the third-year forward.
The Lions play the Chiefs again on Tuesday in a playoff for the No. seeding.
"We’re confident, but we're not overconfident. It’s still Arellano and we know they’re going to come back stronger for the next game."
Mocon was picked over Joseph Eriobu of Mapua, Arellano's Jio Jalalon, Letran's JP Calvo, and Clement Leutcheu of St. Benilde for the Accel Quantum/3XVI-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week.
