SAN BEDA needs not look far in search for a suitable replacement for Rome de la Rosa.
San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez believes that Red Cubs star Javee Mocon Mocon should be able to take over the spot of skipper Dela Rosa, who has ended his collegiate career in the recent NCAA season.
“He is really good. He is one of the stars of the Red Cubs. He will really be a good asset to this team and be a good replacement for Rome,” said Fernandez as the Red Lions look to extend their reign to five years.
Mocon was named Finals Most Valuable Player in 2012 and was instrumental in the Red Lions’ fifth straight title conquest in the recently concluded NCAA season after beating La Salle Greenhills to complete a 20-game sweep of Season 89.
Aside from Mocon, San Beda is also keen on recruiting Arvin Tolentino, who also have offers from Ateneo, De La Salle, National University, and even US NCAA squads Duke and Rhode Island.
So far, Fernandez said they have yet to hear Mocon’s decision but assured that he will respect wherever he intends to go to college.
“I still don’t know the decision of Javee,” Fernandez said.
“Ako naman, ang sabi ko sa Red Cubs, kung ano ang desisyon nila, susuportahan namin kayo. Pero welcome talaga kayo sa San Beda,” said Fernandez.
Fernandez said the Red Lions reiterated their priority to recruit players from the high school program before looking elsewhere for talent.
“We have a program na gusto talaga namin Red Cubs, pupunta sa Red Lions. They will be useful to the Red Lions,” said Fernandez.
