ART Dela Cruz had 17 points and 10 rebounds as San Beda beat College of Saint Benilde, 89-63, on Friday in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Ola Adeogun and AC Soberano added 12 points each for the Red Lions, who improved their record to 9-2 win-loss to remain in the lead in the team standings.
Letran could join San Beda on top of the standings if it wins over Emilio Aguinaldo College later in the day.
San Beda outscored the Blazers, 24-11, in the third period to put the game away as it pounced on the absence of Benilde star Jonathan Grey, who was also disqualified from the PBA rookie draft because of his failure to play in the D-League.
Grey showed up for the game but did not play.
“We played good defense in the third quarter. Wala rin kasi ‘yung best player nila. It was unfortunate for them. It would have been a very interesting game if Grey was there,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
“We are happy where we are right now. But everybody is getting better. We just have to stay healthy and be prepared,” Jarin said.
J.J. Domingo had 20 points to lead the way for the Blazers in the absence of Grey, who recently won the MVP award of the league's All-Star game.
