SUPERSTITION paid off for Robert Bolick in a big game against Mapua on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 basketball wars.
Bolick decided to suit up for the match against the Cardinals with new shoes, particularly the Kobe X Elite 'Rose Gold,' after getting ribbed by teammate Davon Potts who has been leading the team in scoring while wearing Kobe Bryant's signature sneakers as well.
“Natatawa ako kasi past practices, sabi nila, you should wear the Kobe shoes. Hindi ko pa nasusuot eh. He (Potts) said, ‘Just try it, something Mamba (will happen),” said Bolick.
True enough, Bolick had an impressive game against Mapua, flirting with a triple-double by finishing with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.
“Maybe there is something with the Mamba Mentality shoes. I guess he is wearing it, he scores 31, 25. So, okay I’ll try it. Suwerte,” Bolick added.
Potts said he was no longer surprised with Bolick’s performance as he knows his teammate has a lot to offer to the team, having seen his abilities since they joined the Red Lions at the same time two years ago.
“I love Bolick to death. Me and him have come a very long way. We both started at San Beda in Team B. He sacrifices a lot. People don’t know, he is actually a scorer. For him to [almost] have a triple double, that shows what type of person he is. That’s the heart of the team right there,” Potts said.
Bolick, who entered the game with averages of 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, took into account how stacked his team is in explaining why he preferred to facilitate the offense for his teammates this season.
“When you see Davon, AC (Soberano), Radge (Tongco) wide open, kapag hindi mo pinasa, bobo ka na. When they are open, they will make that shot. Why force a shot if they have a better shot?” said Bolick.
