REYGER Dimaunahan has transfered to Arellano and looks set to play in the NCAA following his impressive stint in the NBTC Division 2 with La Salle Lipa.

The 16-year-old guard is set to make his debut for the Braves in the PCABL Freego Cup on Wednesday after joining the school only last Friday.

Dimaunahan got the attention of several schools, according to his mother Shella Yoneda, after winning MVP in the NBTC Division 2. But they chose Arellano because the school owner turned out to be a relative.

“Comfortable siya sa Arellano and at the same time, the school owner si Mr. Francisco Cayco is a fourth-generation grandfather. Maganda ’yung pagtanggap sa kanya,” said Yoneda, adding that Chiang Kai Shek College, Adamson, University of Santo Tomas, and Perpetual Help showed interest after his NBTC stint.

“We are very supportive of him. Kung ano ‘yung naging desisyon niya, susuportahan namin,” said Yoneda.

Dimaunahan powered La Salle Lipa past  Rex Dei Academy, 62-60, for the NBTC Division 2 title. He also played in the Division 2 All-Star Game where he was also adjudged as the MVP.

Yoneda said Dimaunahan had wanted to play in Manila before, but was convinced he can now make it after the NBTC stint.

“Nung una, nag-train na siya before sa Manila pero bata pa siya. Hindi pa talaga siya ready. Nag-decide siya na gusto na niya mag-Manila after ng inter-La Salle tournament sa Bacolod na naging comfortable siya na kaya na niyang mag-Manila.

“Nung NBTC, dun siya mas lalong naging comfortable sa big arena,” said Yoneda, although she admitted Dimaunahan is adjusting well to the style of play of the Braves.

“Different from Lipa. Training is harder but the good thing is supportive ‘yung team. Hindi naman siya nahihirapan mag-adjust kasi hindi siya pinapabayaan,” said Yoneda.
