REY Nambatac buried the critical baskets as Letran came away with a 67-62 win over Jose Rizal University on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Knights main man scored 29 points, leading a 9-2 breakaway in the fourth to help improve the Knights’ record to 5-2.
Nambatac stepped up in the clutch, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Knights made up for their loss to Perpetual Help last week.
“At last, naka-bounce back kami,” said Letran coach Jeff Napa.
“At least, nagawa namin ’yung mga dapat namin gawin. ’Yung mga mistakes namin from previous games, na-correct namin. ’Yun naman ang maganda dito sa team. Alam nila ’yung mga mistakes nila at willing sila mag-adjust.”
With the game tied at 53, Nambatac hit a triple to start Letran’s run that led to a 62-55 advantage. The Knights’ lead dropped to two points but Nambatac drained another trey to put the game out of reach.
Paolo Pontejos had 27 points for the Heavy Bombers, who failed to take advantage of a 29-23 lead at halftime.
