DEFENDING champion Letran pulled away late to fashion out an 89-79 victory over Arellano on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena .
Rey Nambatac led all scorers with 22 points and Mcjour Luib added 17 as the Knights improved to 3-1 and grabbed solo third behind league leaders Mapua and San Beda.
"In-execute nila yung game plan namin especially on defense," said Letran coach Jeff Napa.
After Arellano pulled to within two in the fourth quarter, Luib hit a three-pointer that highlighted a 7-0 run that made it 78-69, with 3:53 to go.
The Knights didn't stop there.
Another Luib trey at the 1:45 mark gave Letran a comfortable 85-73 spread, allowing them to pull away for good.
"Lumalabas na yung tunay na Letran," said Napa.
Jalalon scored 17 points for Arellano, which absorbed its first defeat in three games.
