    Nambatac, Luib catch fire late as Knights deal Chiefs first loss in NCAA 92

    DEFENDING champion Letran pulled away late to fashion out an 89-79 victory over Arellano on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena .

    Rey Nambatac led all scorers with 22 points and Mcjour Luib added 17 as the Knights improved to 3-1 and grabbed solo third behind league leaders Mapua and San Beda.

    "In-execute nila yung game plan namin especially on defense," said Letran coach Jeff Napa.

    After Arellano pulled to within two in the fourth quarter, Luib hit a three-pointer that highlighted a 7-0 run that made it 78-69, with 3:53 to go.

    The Knights didn't stop there.

    Another Luib trey at the 1:45 mark gave Letran a comfortable 85-73 spread, allowing them to pull away for good.

    "Lumalabas na yung tunay na Letran," said Napa.

    Jalalon scored 17 points for Arellano, which absorbed its first defeat in three games.

    Letran 89 - Nambatac 22, Luib 17, Balanza 12, Calvo 11, Quinto 10, Sollano 9, Apreku 5, Ambohot 2, Sario 1, Dela Pena 0.

    Arellano 79 - Jalalon 17, Nichols 15, Flores 10, Enriquez 9, Meca 8, Gumaru 4, Cadavis 4, Holts 3, Aguilar 3, Salado 2, Villoria 2, Canete 2, Gupilan 0.
