PERPETUAL Help coach Jimwell Gican is hoping the loss to also-ran San Sebastian will serve as a lesson to the Altas, calling on his players to give full effort on defense especially when they are struggling on offense.

“Darating ’yung time na malas talaga, hindi maka-shoot. Pero kahit malas, dapat let’s stick to the system,” said Gican.

The Altas saw their six-game winning streak end on Friday, bowing to San Sebastian that had lost nine straight.

“Etong natalo kami, nagkaroon kami ng eye opener,” said Gican.

Gican said the Altas didn’t play within the system, even as they struggled with their outside shots, going 1-of-12 from three-point range.

Bright Akhuetie was also the lone double digit scorer for the Altas with 21 points, while grabbing nine rebounds as his team was outrebounded by the Stags, 51-41.

Noted for defense, the Altas played anemic against the lowly Stags.

“Kasi nung nag-1-on-1 na kami, the more na hindi makashoot, hindi makadepensa,” said Gican.

Still, Perpetual Help is on track for the semifinals with an 8-3 win-loss slate.

“Magandang lesson ito sa amin,” said Gican.
