ARELLANO University snapped its four-game losing skid as it leaned on a strong fourth quarter comeback to turn nip Jose Rizal University, 67-64, in the 89th NCAA senior's basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Trailing by six, 53-59, Donald Gumaru drained a three-pointer to turn the game around and sparked a 12-3 run by the Chiefs to finally grab the upperhand, 65-62, in the final 54.8 seconds en route to the hard-earned win.

“Ang hirap manalo,” said Arellano coach Koy Banal with a sigh of relief.

“It's not about a perfect game but a perfect effort,” he added.

Four Chiefs finished in double figures as Kieth Agovida poured eight of his 12 points in the fourth, Prince Caperal and John Pinto also had 12 each, while Adam Serjue had 10 markers.

Arellano moved from ninth to seventh place in the standings with a 3-6 (win-loss) record.

“Kami ng teammates ko gusto lang talaga manalo,” said Caperal. “Yung pinagdaanan namin, 'yung mga tao pa may mga sinasabi tungkol sa team namin, lahat 'yun nag-silbing inspirasyon sa amin.”

Paolo Pontejos had a game-high 18 points, including 10 in the fourth, to lead the Heavy Bombers, while Philip Paniamogan had 13.

Despite the loss, the Heavy Bombers remained in fourth spot with a 5-3 slate.
