SAN BEDA survived a huge third quarter St. Benilde run to score a 73-67 win on Thursday in the NCAA Season 91 seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
After leading by as many as 13 points at the half, 41-28, the Lions were outscored by the Blazers, 20-9.
That cut the lead to 48-50, going into the final period.
But the Red Lions came up with 11 unanswered points to start the fourth and held on for their fourth victory in five matches.
“We got careless and their defense got better,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
Nigerian reinforcement Ola Adeogun had a double-double performance of 25 points and 13 rebounds in 27 minutes of play, Art de la Cruz added 10 and Jeramer Cabanag scored nine, with seven coming in the fourth quarter.
“Jeramer is an all around athlete,” said Jarin of the rookie. “He was a go-to-guy in Bacolod but now he’s willing to make sacrifices.”
Jonathan Grey scored 16 points for St. Benilde, while Bong Saavedra contributed 15 for the Blazers, who absorbed their fourth loss in five outings.
