FOR Ola Adeogun, cutting weight equaled to cutting his fouls.
The San Beda star slotman, who was often saddled by foul trouble in the first round, has finally solved his difficulties, as he has yet to foul out in the second round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
And it seems shedding a few pounds did the trick.
Adeogun said he lost 15 pounds after weighing 249 pounds earlier in the season.
“I wasn’t moving quickly. I wasn’t moving my legs, so I went back to the gym and started doing agility training for my quickness,” the Nigerian big man said. “And it has been helping me.”
“I was a little bit slow. Mabigat pa, pero ngayon hindi na.”
It seems to have been working wonders as he has committed just two fouls in 29 minutes in the Lions’ 78-54 win over College of St. Benilde on Saturday.
Being free from foul trouble allowed Adeogun, running second in the MVP race, to post dominant numbers of 28 points, 16 boards, two blocks.
“Second round na. Malapit na playoffs, so kailangan mag-sipag,” he said. “I just have to step up my game.”
