WIN No. 84 is in the bag for National University as it blasted University of Santo Tomas, 90-48, on Sunday in the UAAP women's basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
Jack Animam had 19 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks the Lady Bulldogs remained unbeaten at 4-0 in Season 82.
Her early burst helped NU start off hot, staging a 20-7 opener before extending the lead to 29 points, 50-21, at the half.
It was all academic from there as the Lady Bulldogs continued to pounce on the hapless Golden Tigresses, with Mikka Cacho giving them a 47-point advantage, 87-40 with 2:06 left.
"I just told the girls to start stronger. You got to be consistent," said coach Pat Aquino.
Kaye Pingol chipped in 15 points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists, as Kelli Hayes added 12 points, six rebounds and six dimes.
Still, Aquino said he thinks highly of UST.
"Siguro ito ang magiging rival namin," he said. "UST is going to be a tough team to beat. They're always there and they bring out the best in us. Maybe na-challenge din yung girls sa game na ito."
Lon Rivera led UST with 11 points on 3-of-13 shooting.
Last year's MVP Grace Irebu was limited to just 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Golden Tigresses suffered incurred their first loss to fall to 2-1.
Novie Ornopia led Adamson to back-to-back wins, clobbering University of the Philippines, 100-74. The rookie center poured 23 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block.
Mar Prado had 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, six steals and one block.
"Novie is one of my best recruits from last year. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, di mo muna matatapatan ang Mar Prado, pero maba-backupan mo si Mar Prado. Gusto ko magkaroon tayo ng Batman and Robin dyan," said coach Ewon Arayi.
The two anchored Adamson's 30-point second quarter pullaway to erect a 55-31 halftime edge as UP fizzled out in the second half.
And that just puts a smile on the face of Arayi.
"Kapag hindi kumilos si Mar, meron akong Novie. Good thing naman na by Mar's guidance sa mga bata, pinagsabay ko silang dalawa and good thing na itong ating beterano, nadala siya," she said.
Kat Araja added 18 points, six steals, four rebounds and four assists, while Gerl Anticamara had 10 points and four dimes for Adamson, which grabbed a share of second at 2-1 with UST and FEU.
UP stayed winless at 0-3 as it suffered its 33rd straight defeat which has now spanned four seasons.
Jona Lebico led the Lady Maroons with 19 points and two rebounds, as Stiff Larrosa got 12 points, four boards and three assists.
