    NU Lady Bulldogs close in on elims sweep, FEU completes semis cast in UAAP women's basketball

    DEFENDING champion National University closed in on an outright finals berth, while Far Eastern University booked a spot on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 women's basketball tournament.

    The Lady Bulldogs routed University of Sto. Tomas, 79-58, at the Araneta Coliseum to extend their winning run to 13, one win away from a sweep of the eliminations.

    University of the East claimed the No. 2 spot and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals with a 70-51 dismantling of Adamson University.

    With its 11th win in 13 games, UE is assured of finishing No. 2 behind NU, while the Tigresses ended the eliminations in third place with a 10-4 card.

    Precious Arellado nailed a last-gasp basket in overtime as Far Eastern University edged La Salle, 63-61, at the Blue Eagle Gym to clinch the last spot in the semifinals.

    After a two-year absence, the Lady Tamaraws are back in the Final Four, notching their seventh win in 13 contests.

    NU looks to complete an elims sweep when it takes on UE on Saturday.

    In a battle of also-rans, Ateneo survived University of the Philippines, 44-42, for a 4-9 card.
