    NU Lady Bulldogs rip La Salle by 54 points to stretch win streak to 83

    NATIONAL University coasted to its 83rd straight win, waylaying La Salle by 54 points, 112-58, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 women's basketball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

    Congolese center Rhena Itesi carried the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points, 19 rebounds, and a block as the Lady Bulldogs started off the game with a 29-9 barrage.

    Season 80 MVP Jack Animam also added 18 points and 13 boards, while rookie Camille Clarin produced 11 of her 19 points in the killer first quarter.

    Kaye Pingol also scored 14 points, while Kelli Hayes got 11 in the win.

    "I told the girls to play hard. We've been coming off the start very slow. Going into the game, they are in it by the second quarter and then slow again in the third quarter," said coach Pat Aquino as his side finally churned out a convincing start.

    "I just want us to be consistent with everything - to start strong and finish stronger."

    Chuchi Paraiso paced La Salle with 14 points, while Kent Pastrana had 11 as it bowed to its second consecutive loss to fall to 1-2.

    In the second game, Mar Prado powered Adamson to an 82-57 conquest over University of the East.

    The third-year standout fired 39 points, on top of eight rebounds to usher in the huge second half where the Lady Falcons grabbed a lead as much as 22, 73-51, with three minutes remaining.

    "As I always say nga winning is not everything to me. What is important to me as a coach, and even as a player before, is how you play the game," said coach Ewon Arayi as Adamson finally broke through after losing its first two games.

    Kat Araja scored 10 points and six assists, while Lhyn Bilbao had nine points to compliment her 13 boards for the Lady Falcons.

    Tin Cortizano paced the Lady Warriors with 11 points and eight rebounds as they fell to 0-3.
