HISTORY is made.
The National University Lady Bulldogs now own the longest winning streak in league history, collecting victory no. 74 at the expense of University of Santo Tomas, 96-57, Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women's basketball tournament.
Unbeaten since the opening day of Season 77 at July 13, 2014, the Lady Bulldogs have now bested the previous mark set by the Adamson softball team from 2010 to 2016 as the lady ballers from Jhocson etched their names in the history books at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Ria Nabalan led the third quarter onslaught as NU finally got to run in the open court, stringing 10 straight points that turned a 42-29 halftime lead to a 52-29 advantage.
The floodgates opened from that point as that run was just the start of a 23-4 blast capped off by a fastbreak conversion from Princess Fabruada that made the game a 65-33 affair late in the frame.
It was all Lady Bulldogs from there, with a Kaye Pingol and-one giving her side a 44-point lead, 93-49 with 4:03 left to play.
"Sobrang saya. Sobra, sobra, sobra," sighed coach Patrick Aquino after her girls achieved their first goal set prior to the season.
"Nawala na yung konting pressure. Good thing it's done already and we've beaten the record."
What's next now is a possible title no. 5, solidifying NU's case as the most dominant women's basketball program in UAAP history.
"It doesn't stop there. We hope that we could still have that intensity and hardwork. Sana magawa namin," said Aquino.
Nabalan unloaded 31 points on a scintillating 7-of-12 clip from threes, while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Pingol was also a terror on the open court, dropping 20 points off eight steals, four rebounds, and four assists in the triumph.
Jack Animam powered through inside with her 15 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block, while Rhena Itesi also got 15 points, five boards, and three dimes.
Monique del Carmen completed the Lady Bulldogs quintet with her 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three blocks as they improve to 10-0 for the season.
Sai Larosa carried UST (6-4) in the defeat with her 18 points and four rebounds.
