Topex Robinson believes out-of-shape rookie Noah Lugo can lead Lyceum to Promised Land

    Jul 1, 2015

DESPITE joining the team late and out of shape, rookie point guard Noah Lugo is being counted upon to be a vital cog for the Pirates by Lyceum coach Topex Robinson.

Robinson bared the former Mapua Red Robin was recruited by the school just two weeks before the opening of the NCAA Season 91 basketball tournament.

The 5-foot-7 Lugo noticeably gained weight from the time he helped the Red Robins reach the finals of NCAA Season 90, losing to six-time champion San Beda Red Cubs in three tough games.

Still, Robinson remains confident of what Lugo can do for the Pirates after averaging 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.1 steals for the Red Robins last year.

“As you could see, medyo parang may bunsong kapatid si Beau Belga dito,” said Robinson of Lugo in obvious reference to the heavyweight Rain or Shine big man, drawing laughs from reporters around him.

“But I believe in what Noah Lugo can bring to the team.”

While his point guard may still need to work on his conditioning, Robinson said he liked how Lugo plays ever since his Red Robin days.

“Since I saw him, gusto ko na siya kunin kasi he is a point guard that is willing to gamble. ‘Yung hindi de-kahon. He is going to lose some games for us, but he is also going to win games for us, too,” said Robinson, a point guard himself during his playing days in the NCAA with San Sebastian.

The Lyceum rookie coach is confident that in due time, Lugo will be able to live up to his full potential.
