SAN BEDA coach Boyet Fernandez said he respects the decision of Red Cubs star Arvin Tolentino to rebuff the Red Lions and instead play college ball for Ateneo.
Fernandez said Tolentino left the school in good terms as the blue-chip high school prospect personally informed him of his decision to play for the Blue Eagles in college.

“We respect his decision and we move forward." - San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez
Though he admitted Tolentino will be a huge loss as the Lions try to go for a fifth straight NCAA men’s basketball title, the San Beda mentor said he harbors no ill-feelings toward Tolentino for leaving the Mendiola-based school.
“We respect his decision and we move forward,” Fernandez said. “Kung ano ang desisyon ng bata, ‘yun ang susuportahan namin. Ganun naman kami.”
Tolentino and Ravena are no strangers to each other, having been teammates in the Philippine team that competed in last year’s Fiba Under-18 3x3 World Championship in Jakarta.
Fernandez said he understands Tolentino that playing in the UAAP is also a good opportunity for him.
“He regrets leaving San Beda pero UAAP talaga ang gusto niya, ‘yung liga. I can’t fight for that. Maganda rin naman ang NCAA pero siyempre, ‘yun ang gusto niya,” said Fernandez.
With Tolentino out, the San Beda coach remained unperturbed as he remains confident the team can remain a title contender in the years to come.
“Mabigat talaga. Pero I still have my core of players. We will just keep on trying to recruit players and fortify the core lineup of San Beda,” said Fernandez.
