Allwell Oraeme powered the Mapua Cardinals to a 75-64 in over Lyceum in the NCAA Season 92 men's basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena on Tuesday.
Oraeme frolicked with a double-double outing of 22 points and 25 rebounds to help the Cardinals grab solo lead with a pristine 3-0 win-loss card.
The reigning MVP also had 4 assists and five blocks, the last of which he made during the crucial moments of the contest to help the team pull away for good.
The Pirates absorbed their third defeat in as many games, but didn't go down without a fight.
Lyceum clawed back from 18 points down and pulled to within six, 70-64, on a split by Mike Nzeusseu with 1:19 to go.
But the Cardinals held on, made a few stops including the huge Oraeme block on Shaquille Alanes with under 30 ticks to go, and sealed the win in the process.
"The team took it lightly because we were leading by more than 10 points," said Mapua head coach Atoy Co. "Thankfully, we were able to recover."
CJ Isit and Exeqiel Biteng added 16 and 15 points, respectively for Mapua.
Nzeusseu paced Lyceum with 16 points.
