JIO Jalalon had a double-double as Arellano romped past San Sebastian, 99-81, on Friday to capture its second win in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Jalalon finished with 31 points and 11 assists, while also tallying eight steals for the Chiefs, who joined San Beda and Mapua for a share of first place in the team standings.
Arellano took command from start to finish, leading by as many as 20 points as the Chiefs tabbed the victory before the league takes a respite to make way for the country’s hosting of the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Kent Salado had 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists for the Chiefs as their backcourt duo provided firepower once again for their team
“’Yung cause of concern lang namin kanina was San Sebastian was in striking distance nung first quarter, nagiging shootout. We couldn’t find the right chemistry sa backcourt namin, so we settled sa kanilang dalawa (Jalalon and Salado),” said Arellano coach Jerry Codinera.
Dioncee Holts had 16 points, while Lervin Flores also had a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds, with two blocks for the Chiefs.
Despite a big deficit, San Sebastian was able to trim the lead down to six points in the fourth, 73-67, on back-to-back triples but Arellano quickly responded with a 10-2 run.
Ryan Costelo had 15 points and six rebounds, following a two-point outing in his first game of the season, for the Stags. Alvin Capobres added 14.
