TEAM effort is the key.
With high-scoring guard Kevin Alas opting not to suit up in his final year, Letran knows it must play as one cohesive unit if it hopes to equal or even surpass last year’s runner-up finish in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Gone too, from the team is longtime coach Louie Alas, whose huge shoes rookie mentor Caloy Garcia will try to fill.
“Wala kaming specific na superstar, but then of course everybody must step up,” said Garcia, whose last head-coaching stint came with Welcoat (now Rain or Shine) in the PBA.
"We know naman kung ano ang capabilities ng isa't-isa, so alam din naman nila kung sino ang dapat puntahan ng bola at the end. Pero during the game mas gusto ko lahat meron go-signal,” Garcia added.
Senior big man Raymond Almazan will now be the focal point of the Knights’ frontcourt, while Mark Cruz returns as the team’s premier player at the point.
A key player to watch for the team is former junior MVP and rookie Rey Nambatac.
Despite a new coach and the loss of key players from last year's runner-up team, the Knights remain a Final Four contender team this year.
