SAN Sebastian has a new coach, nine rookies and high hopes as the Stags try to bounce back after a disappointing season.

CJ Perez has moved to Ateneo and Ranzelle Yong has left for still unknown reasons after a fine rookie year, while coach Topex Robinson now handles the Lyceum Pirates.

This means the duo of Jamil Ortuoste and Bradwyn Guinto will have more responsibility this year as new head coach Rodney Santos tries to help the Stags improve on their 5-13 record and eighth place finish last year.

“We're starting from scratch,” said Santos

“I have no choice but to make do with whatever talent remained although I'm confident we'll survive this year.”

Aside from Ortuoste and Guinto, the Stags hope to get significant contributions from sophomores Michael Calisaan, Jerick Fabian and Ryan Costelo, who showed promise in their rookie season a year ago.

“It's a new look San Sebastian so we expect some bumps in the road,” he said.
