ST. BENILDE-La Salle Greenhills overpowered erstwhile unbeaten Arellano University, 98-69, on Monday to keep its place in the top four in the 92n NCAA juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Troy Mallinllin had a game-high 24 points while Unique Naboa came off the bench and scattered 20 as the Junior Blazers clinched their sixth win against three losses.
The Braves suffered their first defeat after winning eight straight games, including a shock 93-90 victory over the San Beda Cubs last week.
Joel Cagulangan had 12 points with five rebounds and six assists for St. Benilde-LSGH.
Arellano U is till on top followed by San Beda (7-1) and Mapua (6-2).
St. Benilde-LSGH made 41 of the 77 shots they attempted for an impressive 53.25 percent and had a solid defensive effort as they held down the Braves to just 24 of the 65 for 36.92 percent.
St. Benilde-LSGH also committed 17 turnovers while Arellano had 30.
Arellano also missed 12 of the 29 free throw attempts, while St. Benilde-LSGH went 12-for -17 from the stripe.
