LYCEUM hopes for better fortunes in Season 91 as the Pirates play a new system under a new coach for the first time in over a decade and first in five years in the NCAA.
Former San Sebastian coach Topex Robinson has taken over the Pirates after Bonnie Tan resigned last year after more than a decade in charge.
"We're not assuring anything because we know how tough the league is right now," said Robinson.
The NCAA basketball tournament opens on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
"I have high hopes we'll do better this season because I see my players' desire to prove something."
Robinson and the Pirates are looking to improve on the seventh place finish last year, with Cameroonian import Guy Mbida heading the team also featuring Joseph Gabayni, Jebb Bulawan, Wilson Baltyazar and Jeremiaj Taladua.
Robinson has brought with him big man coach Romel Adducul.
"I hope I can be an inspiration to the players and I can teach them the value of discipline, teamwork and hardwork for them to achieve the same success I had when I was still playing in the NCAA," said Adducul, who has already retired from playing.
