MAPUA'S Darrell Menina beat Arellano's Kraniel Villoria in the finals to become the first Skills Challenge champion in the NCAA All-Star festivities at the Filoil Flying V Arena on Friday.

Menina was ahead of Villoria the entire way but had to take two attempts before making one from the three-point area to win the inaugural event.

"Feeling ko matatalo na ako kasi shooter si Villoria e," said Menina, whose family from Cebu showed up to support him.

"Ginawa ko lanhg yung best ko para sa family ko," he added.

Before reaching the finals, Menina toppled JRU's MJ Dela Virgen. He also bested Radge Tongco, Louie Pasamante, Flash Sadiwa, Matthew Bernabe, Reymar Caduyac, Tyan Costelo, and Raymond Pascua after clocking 24.6 seconds in the elimination round.

Meanwhile, Team Heavy Bombers stomped their class in the Shooting Stars contest.

Marvin Hayes, Darius Estrella, and Cadell Buno comprised the squad that bested Perpetual after registering 27.8 seconds in the finals.

"Sabi ko lang sa mga kasama ko, no pressure dahil All-Star naman ito," said JRU alumnus Hayes, whose team beat the Perpetual side led by Flash Sadiwa, Gelo Razon, and Dom Javier.

"Matalo tayo, OK lang, pero kung manalo, mas masaya," he added.
